adminLast month Special Olympics Zimbabwe hosted a similar event at Kwekwe High School with over 200 athletes and their families participating in bocce, five-aside- football and athletics.
Special Olympics is the world’s largest sports organisation for children and adults with intellectual disabilities, providing year-round training and competitions to nearly 4 million athletes in 170 countries, including Zimbabwe.
Assistant national sports director for Zimbabwe, Owen Makaluwa, yesterday said so far 15 schools and institutes have confirmed taking part in the event at Prince Edward.
“So far we have got 15 schools that are expected to bring their athletes for volleyball, bocce and five-aside soccer.
“Last month we hosted another national games’ series in Kwekwe, which was mainly attended by athletes from Midlands, Masvingo and Mashonaland West.
“On Saturday we are expecting institutes like Zimcare Trust, Zambuko, PE, Vimbainashe Learning Institute and St Marys’ Anglican to field teams in soccer,” said Makaluwa.
Homefield Centre and Sunshine usually bring competitive teams in bocce, which is almost similar to bowling.
