REGISTRATION for the second edition of the Binga Beach Volleyball tournament to be held at the Binga sand beach, situated on the Zambezi River,- has opened.

The competition which runs under the auspices of the Zimbabwe Volleyball Association (ZVA) is set for December 2-4.

In a letter addressed to the provincial volleyball chairpersons, Enias Kondo, the ZVA secretary general said registration fees have been set at US$30 per team.

“The Zimbabwe Volleyball Association writes to invite your Beach Volleyball athletes to participate in the Binga Volleyball Tournament from the 3rd to the 4th of December 2022.

“The competition calendar will be as follows; technical meeting on 2 December 2022 and competition days 3 to 4 December 2022.

“The affiliation fees for the tournament US$30 per pair/team,” wrote Kondo.
Amazon Club of Harare won the women’s competition after beating AM Academy 1 2-0 in the final.
Luveve High School based Luvac won gold at the Binga Beach Volleyball men’s competition after beating AM Academy 1 2-1.

ZVA president, Mxolisi Ndlovu was impressed with the turnout of teams and the local spectators who thronged the Binga sand beach to watch the inaugural competition’s games.

Last year’s edition attracted 15 teams and it is highly likely that there might be an increase for the 2022 edition.

Besides being impressed by the turn out, Ndlovu said “The sand here is equally good for the players to practise on a more natural beach.”

The head of ZVA secretariat said they are targeting corporate sponsorship and partnerships so that they can benefit from sports tourism as per national goals.

Organisers of the Binga Kasambabezi Marathon who assisted the ZVA in mobilising locals to support volleyball have been roped in to organise the 2022 edition.

A fortnight ago, at least 850 athletes from across the country converged in Binga for the Binga Kasambabezi Marathon.

Recent Ncube, a member of Binga Kasambabezi Marathon’s local organising committee said: “We’re excited to have received an invitation from the volleyball fraternity to assist with staging of the competition. We’re hopeful that just like the marathon we held a fortnight ago, the volleyball competition will be a hit.

Last year was the first for us as Binga to host the competition and we hope that this year’s edition is going to be bigger and better, with the community as well as local businesses benefitting from hosting such a tournament.” -@ZililoR
