TOURISM players in Binga have expressed gratitude to the Government and the Zimbabwe Tourism Authority (ZTA) for giving them an opportunity to host this year’s World Tourism Day celebrations. World Tourism Day is celebrated every year to raise awareness on the role of tourism within the international community and to demonstrate how it affects social, cultural, political and economic values worldwide.

In an interview, Mlibizi Hotel manager Mr Maxmillan Chigubhu said the hosting of the event in Binga was going to give them an opportunity to market the place.

“Binga tourism has been declining for the past years and we hope it’s going to be an opportunity for us to put it on the international map,” said Mr Chigubhu.

The event kicks off with a Tourism Indaba at Mlibizi Lodge on Thursday and followed by the World Tourism Day celebrations at

Kulizwe Lodge which will be held under the theme, “Tourism and Water: Protecting our Common Future.”
Mr Chigubhu said during the tourism indaba they were hoping to put across challenges they faced.

“We are honoured to host such an event. We hope it’s going to be an opportunity for us to air our views and challenges that we face as tourism players in Binga,” said Mr Chigubhu.

Binga Rest Camp supervisor Miss Memory Mdluli said they would use the event to market Binga.

“We are happy to host such an event because this is going to be an opportunity to market Binga and hopefully a lot of people are going to grace the event and see the tourism sites that we have in Binga,” said Mdluli.

Mr Chigubhu said all the tour operators in the area were ready to host all the delegates coming for the event.
“All the hosting tour operators like Mlibizi Lodge, Mlibizi Resort, Binga Rest camp, Chilila Lodge, Masuma Lodge, Kulizwe Lodge and Journeys End are ready to host the event. We have the capacity to host all the guests that are going to come for the event,” he said.
“We want to take this opportunity to invite all the tour operators in Hwange, Victoria Falls and other surrounding areas to come and be part of the event,” he said.

Binga has several tourism sites such as the hot springs and natural geysers.
At the Zambezi River, there are also beaches that have a potential to attract both local and international tourists.
