A 46-year-old man from Lusulu in Binga has been jailed an effective 10 years in prison after he was found guilty of six counts of attempted murder and one count of unlawful dealing in dangerous drugs.
Nguquko Moyo was convicted by the Hwange Regional Court on all seven counts.
“On the night of 12 June 2026, the offender arrived at his mother’s homestead in Kayongolo Village under Chief Pashu in Lusulu, where he confronted family members over an alleged extra-marital affair.
In a fit of rage, the offender setfire on a bedroom hut where five occupants, including his 66-year-old mother, a 44-year-old man, and three juveniles aged 3, 10, and 12 years, were sleeping,” said the National Prosecuting Authority of Zimbabwe (NPAZ).
When a relative entered the burning hut to assist the victims, the offender locked the
door from outside, trapping the six of them inside.
“The victims narrowly escaped death after one of them broke through the rear mud wall of the hut, creating an opening through which they escaped before alerting the police,” said NPAZ.
When police attended the scene further investigations revealed that the offender was hiding four buckets of dagga weighing 12.5 kilogrammes in the area.
“For attempted murder involving six people, he was sentenced to seven years imprisonment of which one year was suspended, while the for unlawful
dealing in dangerous drugs, the court handed down a five-year jail term with one
year suspended”
NPAZ warned that violence and the illegal dealing in dangerous drugs carry
serious legal consequences.
“The Authority remains committed to prosecuting offenders and upholding public safety,”
