BINGA District Hospital has floated a tender to repair and refurbish its mortuary and work is expected to be completed by year-end as the Government continues to fund construction works at health facilities across the country.
The mortuary is a part of the major development set to transform the entire district and help it catch up.
Addressing thousands of people who gathered to witness the commissioning and handover of fishing rigs to 21 chiefs, 17 from Binga and four from Kariba, in April, President Mnangagwa said Binga will no longer lag behind in terms of development.
He admitted that over the years Binga has been regarded as under-developed but said that record must be reversed as the New Dispensation was focused on driving inclusive development.
“We looked at Binga and it seemed to lag behind but today we are celebrating because development has come your way, now is the time to work together and transform our country.” Funding had been availed to repair the Binga mortuary, as well as making sure that clean water is supplied to the district hospital.
In an interview, Binga District Medical Officer Dr Sibonginkosi Ncube said the mortuary refurbishment was an emergency requirement and should be completed by the end of this year considering that the funds have already been provided.
“This project should be completed as soon as possible, by the end of year, it’s a matter of emergency.
“In terms of money set aside it’s a budget inside a budget, but we don’t expect financial glitches.
“A total of $70 million was funded for the mortuary and general renovations,” she said.
In a statement, the district hospital invited bids for two tenders, the refurbishment of the mortuary and that of supply and delivery of carpentry material.
The deadline for applications is June 24.
