Binga woman drowns on way to clinic

Evelyn Mudenda drowned in the river on Wednesday last week and her body was discovered on Friday.

The incident was confirmed by Matabeleland North police spokesperson Inspector Billie Dube.

He said Mudenda, from Samuel Mudenda’s homestead under Chief Sinamwenda was in the company of three neighbours when the tragic incident occurred.

“On Wednesday last week, Mudenda and three neighbours were going to Chunga Clinic for treatment. When they arrived at Chunga River, it was flooded and the other three women crossed, but Mudenda was swept away,” said Insp Dube.

“A report was made to the police at Siyabuwa, who attended to the scene and her body was later found on Friday, about 1km downstream. A postmortem was waived and no foul play is suspected.”

Insp Dube warned members of the public against crossing flooded rivers, saying many people had lost their lives while trying to cross flooded rivers during the rainy season.
