Sadc Chamber of Commerce and Industry.
Mr Binha was appointed president at an ASCCI workshop held in Johannesburg last month.
The ASCCI is an independent, non-profit organisation established as a response to the growing need for effective participation of organised business in the region.
In a statement, Mr Binha said the workshop was designed to allow the association and its members to consider and agree on their priorities for the engagement with Sadc secretariat and its institutions.
“The business community was given an opportunity to discuss and agree on key issues for effective dialogue with Sadc within their advocacy work as well as identifying synergies between ASCCI and SEG.
“ASCCI’s driving principle is to ensure that there is a greater voice to support private sector growth and the development of a free market economy in the Sadc region.
“The participants committed themselves to the revival of ASCCI, and ensure that it becomes an effective body that will give value to its constituency,” he said.
He also indicated that the other purpose of the workshop was to ensure the equipping of ASCCI membership with the capacity to engage with other private sector players to effectively engage with the Sadc secretariat.
“The organisation resolved that ASCCI would attend to membership cross-cutting issues in the region,” he said.
ASCCI is a regional organisation which aims to create an enabling business environment in the Sadc region by effectively representing the business community on major socio-economic issues at national and regional policy decision-making levels.
