MANICA Diamonds coach Jairos Tapera was a relieved man after seeing his charges give their best performance so far this season with this emphatic Castle Lager Premier Soccer League win over ZPC Kariba at the National Sports Stadium yesterday.

Fortune Binzi netted twice to add on to Bret Amidu’s opener in a dominant second half performance by the Mutare-based side.

Manica Diamonds have been struggling to put together some convincing displays which merit their quality but yesterday arrived at the giant facility a prepared lot.

They took their points tally to seven in six games having won twice while losing thrice and drawing once.

Although ZPC Kariba looked the better side in the opening half, they simply lacked the cutting edge with Moses Demera and Kudzanayi Dhemere failing to finish off the several chances that came their way.

Manica Diamonds’ Premiership debutant goalkeeper Tedious Baye was also impressive between the sticks denying the home side on several occasions including in two one-on-one situations.

Tapera’s charges though took the game to their opponents in the second phase.

Amidu benefited from ZPC Kariba’s failure to clear their lines 10 minutes after the restart and bundled home a grounder.

Three minutes later, Binzi made a solo run beating the bemused ZPC Kariba defenders before slotting in from an acute angle.

The former Yadah man wrapped the points when slicing in from the left three minutes past the hour mark to complete the rout.

Tapera was satisfied with how his team played.

“This was a good game of football. I think my team played well in all departments,” he said.

“This will give us some breathing space going forward. The situation has not been good. We have been doing well in our matches but we were failing to win. I am very happy and we are already looking forward to our next match.”

His opposite number Darlington Dodo said his team went to sleep in the opening 15 minutes of the second half resulting in the rout.
