Mateyaunga rallies CAPS United

CAPS United captain and goalkeeper Tonderai Mateyaunga says his teammates should summon the same energy levels they have been putting over the weeks when they face Chicken Inn in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Barbourfields tomorrow.

The Green Machine face a tough hurdle for the second week running, having been held to a 1-1 draw by champions FC Platinum at the National Sports Stadium last week.

Makepekepe top the log standings with 11 points to their name after five match days. And they will stay at the apex of the log with a win over the Bulawayo team tomorrow.

But they know a slip could also mean they surrender their position at the summit especially if close rivals FC Platinum and  Dynamos win this weekend.

Mateyaunga said Makepekepe should fully focus on the task against Chicken Inn if they are to maintain the momentum.

They have won three games and drawn twice in a run they have conceded just a single goal.

“As players, we know our responsibility. We are coming from a very disappointing result against FC Platinum.

“We had an upper hand in that game but we lost concentration torwards the end of the game.

“That is one game we should have won. It was painful especially for me as I conceded for the first time.

“But we know how to react, we know how to respond in a season we are expecting to do well,” said Mateyaunga.

“Of course we know Chicken Inn are a tough team.

“They are one of the best clubs on land and they are capable of beating anyone.

“We are expecting a tough battle in Bulawayo on Sunday (tomorrow).

“They have a very good team and they are yet to taste defeat this season.

“But like I have said, as players we know that we have a responsibility to play well and get the results.

“We are aware of the task that is ahead of us against Chicken Inn”.

Mateyaunga said CAPS United have set huge targets for this season and they should retain maximum concentration in tricky encounters like the one against Chicken Inn.

“We have been telling each other of the need to fully focus on the task ahead.

“We know what qe need to do as a team and what we need to avoid to achieve our goals.

“We are travelling and we need to manage the game well. We respect our opponents given they have been one of the most consistent teams in recent years.

“But we are a team that has set big goals. We are willing to go the extra mile. We have seen the worst given we were not at our best last season and this is the time to correct all the wrongs we did last season.

“We became an easy prey for opponents and we cannot allow that to happen this season.

“We are fully determined to win as many games as we can this season”.

Coach Lloyd Chitembwe has a full complement of the squad to pick from given Makepekepe have a clean bill of health.
