Bioskop! Short film competition adjudicators revealed

AFTER announcing the dates for the European Film Festival Zimbabwe (EuroFilmFestZW), organisers of the film exhibitions have revealed the adjudicating panel for the Bioskop! Short Film Competition.

The panel which consists of America-based Zimbabwean thespian Sibongile Mlambo, Bulawayo-born film director Daniel Lasker and cinematographer, Prosper Kunyetu will be given the task of judging and considering who made the best film.

From October 20-22, film aficionados will converge at the Mbare Arts Space in Harare with the Bulawayo edition set to run from October 26-28 October at the Ster-Kinekor cinema.

Running under the theme “Crossing borders”, filmmakers will have a shot at advancing their film-making skills under the watchful eyes of the trio whose vast experience in the film industry will come in handy.

Mlambo is no novice to the film industry having featured in Kini and Adams back in the day and has not turned back since. Her most recent appearance was on the Netflix series, Florida Man and on HBO’s Lovecraft Country and Roswell, New Mexico. She was previously a series regular on Netflix’s Lost in Space and Freeform’s Siren.

Daniel Lasker is arguably Bulawayo’s best export to the global stage when it comes to film as his first IsiNdebele scientific film: The Signal has enjoyed global recognition. His inclusion in the adjudicating panel is the second time after his involvement last year as well. He has featured in diverse European films and is working on a few projects to boost his already impressive cinematic CV.

On the other hand, Kunyetu is a celebrated filmmaker and cinematographer who has etched his name into the film and music industry with finesse after having worked with diverse companies and individuals.

His artistic and digital trail can be traced to his work with Econet Wireless, NetOne, Simbisa Brands, Nedbank, Africa Sun as well as diverse music videos he worked on with Takura, Enzo Ishall and Ishan.

A Bioskop! Short Film Competition winner in his own right, Kunyetu has established a production company called, “Creative Mice Films” to take the aesthetics business to a whole new level.

Such an assembling of knowledgeable personnel in the film business buttresses the idea that EuroFilmFestZW has, that of ensuring the nurturing of nascent talent is achieved.

Barring any changes, filmmakers have until September 2 to freely submit their works for consideration. —@MbuleloMpofu
