Bisto’s Afcon heartbreak

AS the Warriors depart for Cameroon en route to Gabon today, they leave behind a heartbroken soul. Blessing “Bisto” Moyo is dejected after injury ruled him out of the Africa Cup of Nations finals.The defender’s place in the final squad was never in doubt having worked with Kallisto Pasuwa at Dynamos as well as the Young Warriors. The 22-year-old Maritzburg United player is one of Pasuwa’s blue eyed boys.

The national team gaffer has never made his love for “Bisto” a secret, he called Moyo up to the national team when DeMbare made him warm the bench.

However, Moyo will not be in Gabon because of an ankle injury sustained on December 17 last year in Maritzburg’s goalless draw with Platinum Stars.

Pasuwa voiced his pain when it was confirmed that Moyo was out of reckoning.“I would have wanted him in the team. I have worked with him from the Under-23 and we understand him, his strengths and weaknesses.

“It’s very unfortunate, but I would have wanted him to finish off the job in Gabon,” Pasuwa said.

Now speaking for the first time since it was confirmed that he will be missing the trip to Gabon, a shattered Moyo vowed to make it to the next Afcon.

“It hurts a lot, I am pained to the fullest,” he said. “I would have loved to be with my teammates and friends on that plane to Gabon. But everything happens for a reason, I leave it all in the hands of God.

“I worked hard to get an Afcon call up and now this injury…anyway such is life.”

Most of his close friends, among them Warriors number one Tatenda Mukuruva, second choice goalie Donovan Bernard and boyhood buddy Khama Billiat called Moyo to offer support.Bisto spent some time with Mukuruva last Wednesday, celebrating the goalkeeper’s 21st birthday before posting some of their Kodak moments on Facebook.

“They (Warriors teammates) are praying for me to be fine and I am also wishing them all the best on this mission.

“The mission is to come back with the trophy and I am praying that they do it,” said Moyo.The defender is set to go for further tests this week.
