BLABBERMOUTH: The streets know no Your Worship!

WHEN hunting a lion, it is wise to remind yourself that you too are being hunted.
The long and short of this truism is that things can change anytime — and the hunter can easily become the hunted.
This statement emphasises the need for humility, caution, and awareness of risk when pursuing challenging goals — often reminding us that arrogance leads to vulnerability.
Even when you are in a position of power or attacking others (hunting), your target (the lion) has the power to destroy you, making it crucial to remain strategic, humble, and prepared of unforeseen eventualities.
After all, change is the cardinal law of life!
Blabber could not help, but keep thinking about these facts of life after seeing our dear former city father hustling in the streets of our beautiful city.
Yes, the soft-spoken one, whose first name suggests that he is a gift or favour to mankind, while the surname is reminiscent of this other chieftainship in one of our seven districts in the province.
With the extra burden owing to his polygamous marital union, Yours Truly respects the idea that here is man trying to put food on the table for his family. Yes, Blabber is mindful of the fact that vending from undesignated points creates chaos in our city, but there are life lessons that we cannot evade from it.
But . . .
To put matters into perspective, this is the same man who used to run an office that barked instructions for the arrest of street vendors and confiscation of their wares.
Yes, the elderly wept each time they watched helplessly and in agony, losing their wares. During those dark days, their families probably slept on empty stomachs, all because their breadwinners would have lost everything on the streets.
How things change that the same voice that used to hurl instructions to officers to arrest the illegal vendors is now being used to negotiate prices with clients for the stuff being sold from undesignated points.
Fast forward a few years later, the same man who was once at the top is now eking a living out of vending from illegal points on the streets of our beautiful city.
The fact that he is not being arrested or have his wares taken away from him just like what other vendors go through could be all because of the respect he earned during his days he held office.
Blabber will not talk about how the homeless dude wasted opportunities in life spending years’ at his in-laws’ house, notwithstanding fact that he was a beneficiary of immovable properties as a city father.
At the end of the day, no matter who you are, what you did, or where you have come from, things change, friends leave and more importantly, life does not stop for anybody.
Whatever we do, let us never forget that the only thing that is constant in life is change.
Later shall be greater!
