IMAGES of a reckless motorist who was driving an overloaded vehicle, with other passengers on the roof, published by The Manica Post recently earned the motorist a US$600 fine when he was arraigned before Mutare Magistrates’ Court.
Knowledge Muvhevhe (32) of Reesai Village under Chief Zimunya was found guilty on all three counts when he appeared before Mutare provincial magistrate, Ms Anne Ndiraya on Tuesday.
Failure to pay the US$600 fine will see Muvhevhe spend two months and 20 days in prison.
Mr Chris Munyuku prosecuted.
Muvhevhe was found guilty of contravening the Road Motor Transportation Act, Chapter 13:15 for operating a motor vehicle to carry passengers for a reward without an operator’s licence.
He was also found guilty of Roads and Road Traffic (Rules of the Roads) Regulations: 1974: which does not permit any person to ride on wings, fenders, luggage ridges, roof, running board, towing bar, bumpers or bonnet of a motor vehicle.
The third count related to the Road Motor Transportation Act (Touting for Passengers)
For the first count, he was ordered to pay US$150 or spend 20 days in prison, and for the second count, he was ordered to pay US$150 or spend 30 days in prison.
On count number three, he was ordered to pay US$300 or spend 30 days in prison.
