WHAT is it about clubs whose primary colours are BLACK and WHITE and their tendency to attract the most passionate of fans?

Chegutu Pirates, who finally sealed their maiden dance in the domestic Premiership in the year they are celebrating their 60th anniversary, also have black and white as their primary colours.

The Pirates, who are also known as Zaire and Dzinza, have the most passionate support base in the lower leagues.

They demonstrated their pulling power by filling their Pfupajena Stadium to capacity in their final two home games.

“It has always been like that here, the supporters go to watch their team and they support it with everything they have,” said fan, Mark Kalindawalo.

“It’s a culture here, the fathers pass the baton to their sons, and you grow up being a Pirate.

“It has always been like that all these years but we didn’t have the attention we have now. People are seeing it because we are in the newspapers and on radio and TV.”

It’s the same story with Highlanders, Newcastle United of England and Atletico Mineiro of Brazil.
