“I have been in the music industry since 1987 and my ears just went dead after a recording session with Nickson Kasaira and Orchestra Kinoko outfit and I have been partially deaf ever since,” he said.
Chizengeni said he had to abort the recording project after completing just four songs with Kasaira.
“After failing to complete the project I decided to approach officials at the Zimbabwe Union of Musicians for assistance.
“They took me to the patron of the union, Minister Webster Shamu, and he referred to one specialist who deals with such complications,” he said.
The artiste says he also needs to raise money to buy hearing aids to enable him to continue with his music.
“I survive on music and I don’t have any other source of income. It is through music that I can manage to look after my family,” Chizengeni said.
“I started playing for the Black Eagles three years before Robson Banda passed away. He (Banda) was a very likeable and sociable character and I remember when he fell sick he asked the other group members to appoint me as the provisional lead vocalist brother was not a good vocalist,” he said.
Chizengeni said his condition has forced the Black Eagles to take a break from music.
Apart from the Black Eagles, the artiste has also worked with the likes of Hosiah Chipanga, for whom he played the guitar.
Lenso’s musical career started soon after he finished school when he joined the Green Arrows fronted by Zexie Manatsa and he was there when the group recorded hits like “Makepekepe”.
At one time, also worked as a sounder engineer.
Born in 1963, in Chihota, Chizengeni recorded his own albums titled “Tsiga”, “Sango Rinoyera” and “Pindirai”.
Chizengeni paid tribute to Minister Shamu, music promoter Karen “Mai Jojo” Madhake, his friend Godfrey Mandizha and Fast Track Boys, for assisting.
