BULAWAYO nightlife promoter and Olympus Lounge proprietor Doc, popularly known as “The Black Italian” and Igish Lama Gosh, is set to celebrate a major personal milestone in style when he marks his 50th birthday with a star-studded party expected to draw revellers from across the city.
The much-anticipated celebration will take place on 29 August at Olympus Lounge in Bulawayo, with festivities beginning at 6pm. Organisers have promised an unforgettable evening packed with music, entertainment and surprises for patrons.
Dubbed an All Black Party, the event is shaping up to be one of Bulawayo’s biggest social gatherings of the year, bringing together some of the city’s finest disc jockeys for a night of non-stop entertainment.
A total of 10 top Bulawayo DJs will perform on rotation, ensuring music lovers are treated to a diverse mix of sounds throughout the evening.
Patrons attending the celebration will also be in for a special treat, with every guest receiving a complimentary plate of meat and chakalaka on arrival, adding a unique touch to the birthday festivities.
Speaking ahead of the event, The Black Italian said turning 50 was a significant moment in his life and one he wanted to celebrate with the people who have supported him over the years.
“It is a bash not to be missed. It’s an once-in-a-lifetime experience,” he said.
Known across Bulawayo’s entertainment circles, The Black Italian has built a reputation not only as a club owner but also as a community-minded businessman who understands the importance of building lasting relationships with patrons.
Explaining the origin of his colourful nicknames, he said they stem from his passion for fashion and dressing smartly.
“I got the nicknames from the way I love dressing up,” he said.
Over the years, Olympus Lounge has grown into one of the city’s popular entertainment venues, attracting a loyal following in an industry where competition is intense.
According to The Black Italian, running a successful club requires much more than opening doors and playing music.
“Running a club is not child’s play. People have 20 choices, but to make them choose your club, you gotta be grounded, be part of the community and acknowledge your new and old clients,” he said.
He added that strong relationships and networking have been key ingredients in his journey.
“Networking goes a long way,” he said.
Those principles have helped him establish a brand that continues to attract patrons in a constantly evolving entertainment landscape.
Saturday’s celebration is expected to reflect that success, with organisers promising an atmosphere befitting a man who has become a recognised figure in Bulawayo’s nightlife scene.
