ZIFA Northern Region Soccer League pace setters Black Mambas will resume their championship race campaign with a litmus test when they host contenders Golden Eagles at Morris Depot tomorrow.
The league returns from the mid-season break with several matches lined up. It will be the match between two title-chasing teams that will make the resumption an exciting one.
John “Toto” Ncube coached Zimbabwe Republic Police outfit “Warumwa Warumwa” are still to taste defeat in the race and in their last game before the league break they defeated the same opponents 1-0 at Ellis Robins.
Golden Eagles are lying sixth and trail Mambas by nine points and will be looking forward to slashing the margin with a win.
Ncube said he was looking forward to continue doing well as the mid-season break gave his team time to focus.
“We will take every game as it comes and we will remain focused and see how it goes. Our intention was maintaining our position in the league. We played Golden Eagles in the last game and we managed to beat them, which is now water under the bridge. We are still focusing on winning our games and making sure we remain within reach of the championship.
The team managed to rest and we have welcomed back two of our senior players with Tendai Chinungo coming back from injury and Innocent Gondora who has been away on duty.
The team is prepared and we are ready for the match,” said Ncube.
Mark Mathe the Golden eagles coach is still hopeful of a strong challenge and believes they have what it takes.
“I think we have improved in all aspects as we have added some strikers. We were one of the best attacking teams but our conversion rate was a big let-down.
“We are going to the game against Black Mambas as underdogs after they defeated us in our last match but we are hopeful of giving them a fine run,” said Mathe.
