AFTER surviving relegation by the skin of their teeth, army side Black Rhinos will this Saturday hold an awards ceremony to honour the players who kept their Premiership status alive in Kadoma. Black Rhinos survived relegation on the last day of the season as they beat Monomotapa 1-0 at Gwanzura to finish the season in 10th position.
Going into the last game of the season, Black Rhinos were occupying the final relegation slot but they managed to steer away to safety and will celebrate their achievement with an awards ceremony at The Odyssey in Kadoma.
Wellington Mabiginye, the Black Rhinos secretary, yesterday revealed they were going to honour their players.
“We are planning to hold the end-of-year awards ceremony for our players. The venue will be The Odyssey in Kadoma on Saturday evening,” said Mabiginye.
Mabiginye said Rhinos also wanted to thank their fans in Kadoma where they had a good run after switching their base from Gwanzura to Rimuka.
“Our partners Savanna Tobacco are giving us some of the prizes and we hope the awards will motivate the players do even better next season,” he said.
Lot Chiwunga is already assured of getting the Golden Boot Award after ending the season as the leading scorer at the club.
Mabiginye said the club will also reward the Players’ Player of the Year, the Player of the Year, the Most Improved Player, the Most Consistent Player, Rookie of the Year and the Most Disciplined Player.
During this off-season, Mabiginye said Black Rhinos will recruit a few players to strengthen their squad for next season.
“We made some mistakes at the beginning of the season but I was happy that our team improved as the season progressed.
