IN a heartwarming pursuit to spread joy and compassion, an organisation based in Harare yesterday embarked on a noble mission, offering a brilliant display of humanity by donating over 100 blankets and a generous supply of food to the Ingutsheni Psychiatric Hospital in Bulawayo.
Undeterred by the physical distance between the two cities, Friendlies Charity Organisation aimed to demonstrate that love knows no boundaries and extends far beyond those in close proximity.
The organisation exemplified their commitment to social responsibility by contributing 39 cases of peanut butter, 184 warm blankets, 1,000 kilogrammes of sugar beans, and 500 nourishing cabbages to the psychiatric hospital.
Mr Tatenda Makanda, the organisation’s representative, said they believe in sharing their love and care to everyone despite the distance that might be between them and the beneficiaries.
He said after seeing how cold it was, they saw it fit to support one of the hospitals in Bulawayo by giving the little they had.
“The donation was made possible by a company called Cut Rag Processors who sponsored some of the donation. We know it might not be much but we are hopeful we will be able to donate more the next time we are here. We are also hopeful this donation will go a long way in supporting the hospital and the patients that they have at the moment,” said Mr Makanda.
Matron Vongai Chimbindi, the Public Relations Officer at Ingutsheni Psychiatric Hospital, expressed gratitude for the donation, recognising its potential to enhance the quality of care provided to their patients through the provision of food and warm blankets.
She revealed the challenges the hospital faces due to the influx of patients and underscored their commitment to accommodating everyone in need. The support they receive from generous organisations and individuals is always cherished, as it enables them to meet the needs of their vulnerable patients during this winter season.
“Because it’s now winter and we have a lot of vulnerable numbers who need to be admitted we cannot turn them away, that is why all the help which we can get is always appreciated and we make sure to use it in the best possible way that will benefit our patients,” said Matron Chimbindi.–@flora_sibanda
