FORMER Mutare Sports Club coach Blessing Mwale is concerned with the National Rugby League’s failure to resume due to lack of sponsorship.
Mwale told The Herald yesterday that he is no longer the coach for Mutare but he will now be more involved with development of rugby in the eastern Highlands city.
“It is sad that NRL has still not started and lack of sponsorship is becoming a big problem,” said Mwale.
“As for the Mutare players, they stopped showing up for training. I remember last month when I was still their coach the number of players started getting small.
“Everyone has shifted their attention from the resumption of the NRL to improving and getting new players who will be able to make the town proud.
“The administration is also working on developing both provincial rugby and club rugby around the Mutare community. “Besides the NRL not running and I feel moving the focus to development is a good thing for Mutare Sports Club.
“When you look at the log standing, the club were bottom and this is because the administration has been poor and so this is a good opportunity for them to now look at what causes the team to lose most of their matches.” But the NRL chairman Nody Kanyangarara approached a few companies who might come into their camp soon. “We have approached a few companies and we are hoping that we will get help soon, we understand that clubs may lose players as the break is too long now but we are doing all we can to make sure we get the necessary funding to resume playing,” Kanyangarara said.
