“I will stage two shows one in Manica on Saturday and another one in Chimoio. Our music has a great following in the province because most of the community radios play our music. I am looking forward to the show. We are even topping the charts in the province,” said Shumba.
The gospel artiste said his sound quality would not be compromised after the departure of senior band members in January this year.
“We have roped in new guys and they are equally capable. I have been performing with them and they are improving each day,” he said. Shumba was deserted by producer Lyton Ngolomi, Bethany Pasinawako and Brian Ngolomi, who joined Mathias Mhere.
However, Shumba said they were session musicians who were free to perform with any musician.
“They have always played somewhere else on some occasions and there is nothing peculiar about it,” Shumba said.
“I always have standby artistes to fill the gap whenever they don’t turn up. They are free to come back if they want to — just as they have always done, but this time around, they will have to be the standby artistes.”
Shumba said his mission would not be deterred by “mercenaries”.
“Everyone is free to do what they want according to their mission and even you can come and be a vocalist without a single problem,” he said.
Lyton Ngolomi said he was not tied to any musician. “We are free agents,” he said.
