BLIND singer Daniel Gonora says artists like Jah Prayzah should learn from Wicknell Chivayo and help others who are crying out for a helping hand.

Jah Prayzah was one of the artists who were handed top-of-the-range cars by Chivayo.

This has triggered debate countrywide with some saying Chivayo should be donating to the poor, including the homeless who roam the streets, instead of top musicians who have the means to buy their own cars.

However, Gonora, who is the leader of Gonora Sounds and survives by begging in the Harare CBD, said Chivayo shoud do what he wants with his money and gifts.

Instead, he feels the recepients like Jah Prayzah should also take a leaf from Chivayo and help others.

“What Sir Wicknell did to the artists was a very good move and it is now up to the beneficiaries to remember us.

“I urge top artists like Jah Prayzah, Suluman, DJ Fantan, Sandra Ndebele and others who benefited from Chivayo to use those cars in their charity work to visit the poor like us here.

“I also appeal to these artists to assist us with old equipment, food, medication as well as roping us as supporting acts at their shows.”

He added:

“Chivayo was correct to donate to these artists though my dream is to meet him and thank him face-to-face.

“Those who benefited should assist us.

“For instance, my kit was burnt down in the cloakroom where we kept it in Mbare.

“I lost everything, including a drum set and rhythm guitar donated by Simon Mutambi, speakers, and an amplifier.

“Artists must assist each other.”
