THE National Blood Service Zimbabwe has launched a holiday campaign to collect blood over the Heroes holiday to ensure it is available nationally to those who may need it.NBSZ public affairs manager Ms Esther Massundah said 35 awareness points were established countrywide to enable more donors to give blood.
The programme aims to collect about 4 500 units of blood for the month of August and the campaign is running under the theme: “Give the Gift of Life — Donate Blood.”
“We have seen it fit to have such points in major cities and towns for the benefit of the public and the 4 500 units of blood is our target,” she said.
“This is a period when we experience a lot of accidents and saving life is a task which needs combined efforts and we are asking people to donate blood to ensure availability when it is needed.”
More than 64 000 people donate blood annually in Zimbabwe and 70 percent of blood collections are from the youth and the balance from adults.
