‘Bloody Christmas’ in Midlands

Midlands Bureau

THE Midlands Province recorded four murder cases between December 23 and December 26, according to police.

In a statement, Midlands Provincial police spokesperson Inspector Emmanuel Mahoko confirmed the murder cases.

“Midlands Province experienced one of its bloodiest Christmas holiday with seven people being murdered across the province during the period between 23 to 26 December 2025,” he bemoaned.

Insp Mahoko identified the murder victims as Trust Mupanduki (28) of Manokore Village under Chief Nhema, Shurugwi, Malvin Fai Moyo (20) of farm number 45 Sikombela area, Chemagora farms in Gokwe South, Josphat Ncube (40) of Vhukani Village under Chief Malisa, Silobela and Anymore Chogodo (30) of Chakazamba Village under Chief Sai in Gokwe South.

“Trust Mupanduki was allegedly stabbed at Safago farm compound, with a Colombian knife by a man only known as Taku, who had seen him chatting with his girlfriend, Sibongile Mhlala of Safago Farm Compound in Shurugwi.

“The suspect disappeared after committing the offence and the body was discovered lying in the bush by neighbours who searched for the now deceased after he had not returned home. The suspect Taku is yet to be located,” he said.

In the case of Fai Moyo, Insp Mahoko said the now deceased and a workmate were on their way from Mbotshwa Tuckshops, where they were drinking beer.

Insp Mahoko said the suspect in the case, Blessing Ncube (35) of Mbotshwa Village under Chief Malisa in Zhombe, followed them and stabbed Fai Moyo with a knife and he died on the spot.

“The suspect has not been arrested and investigations are ongoing,” he said.

Insp Mahoko said Josphat Ncube was allegedly murdered by the four suspects in the matter -Adonis Bvenura (20) of Dhlamini Village, Lyton Mpofu, Donald Ndlovu (20) of Marambeni Village, and Bornwell Matonhodze (20) of Rungu Village, all areas under Chief Malisa in Silobela.

He said the suspects were seated outside Ndebele Bar, BB Business Centre, Silobela, drinking beer.

“The suspects questioned Josphat Ncube why he was drinking alone instead of sharing with them. They dragged him and assaulted him. In the process, they stabbed him with a knife.

“He fell down instantly, after sustaining deep cuts on the shoulder and both sides of the neck.
“He was taken to Silobela District Hospital, where he later succumbed to the injuries while in admission.

Suspect Adonis Bvenura was arrested,” he said.
Insp Mahoko said Anymore Chogodo and others were drinking beer at Guyu Business Centre, Gokwe South.

He said an undisclosed misunderstanding arose between Laston Chimbono’s group and Anymore Chogodo’s group resulting in the two groups producing machetes and knives, threatening each other.

“Chimbono went on to stab Laston Chimbon’o once on the left side of the chest with a knife and he died on the spot. The suspect’s group fled in different directions. Police is keen to locate and interview the group,” he said.

Insp Mahoko called upon members of the public to assist the police with investigations by availing information that might lead to the arrest of the remaining suspects.

“All those who may have information that they think can help us, please approach any nearest police station,” pleaded Insp Mahoko.
