Blue Ribbon change name to Blue Rangers

the name of the founding company Blue Ribbon who withdrew their sponsorship at the beginning of the year due to financial distress.
The club has already sent their request to the Premier Soccer League and the issue is being handled by the management committee.
Shumba said the change of name was agreed upon by the executive, which also include secretary-general Isheunopa Ruvanza, Blessing Huchu, Trymore Chikomo and Amos Mwale.
The club is also seeking new partners to come on board to help boost their profile ahead of the new season.
“Since Blue Ribbon Industries have pulled out of football, the club’s executive, led by myself as chairman, has since taken over full control of the affairs and, in the process, we have changed the name to Blue Rangers,” said Shumba.
“This is a long process which may take time to complete but we are on course.
“At the moment it’s just the change of name but the structures and everything else remains the same,” he added. Blue Ribbon Industries had been the sponsors of the club from the lower Divisions and sustained them through their first season of Premiership football last year before calling it quits early in the new year.
And, with the principal sponsors now out of football, the management have been forced to go out to look for new partners to keep the club afloat.
“For the company (Blue Ribbon Industries) to be in football it was purely a business decision and also to get out of football it was also a business decision.
“We have no issues with that, notwithstanding the fact that the company may in future consider coming back once the business environment permits.
“The executive is still pursuing the possibility of tying up something with those who have shown their interest and by the early stages of the season we should be clear on the issue,” said Shumba.
Blue Ribbon had a decent outing last year under Misheck Chidzambwa, finishing ninth in the league race despite a promising start. Chidzambwa, however, could not last the whole distance and was sacked with a few games remaining following a run of poor results in the later stages. Team manager, Wishes Shiridzinomwa, who is also a qualified coach, took charge thereafter and the management has cast a vote of confidence in him to let him conduct the pre-season preparations.
