At least 60 players are expected to attend the selection tournament which will see 32 participants being selected to represent Bulawayo at the Easter competition which will be held in Gweru.
BMPDA chairman Ndumiso Tshuma said they expected all provinces’ top players to attend the trials as they want to assemble a strong side that will bring medals from next month’s tournament. Top players expected at today’s trials include Railstars’ trio of Ndabezinhle Ngwenya, McLean Chirwa and Patrick Zimidzi, Moses Ndlovu, Kerepatsi Mleya of Wise Waters and Fairbridge’s Jimmy Magwai.
Archers’ quintet of Brian Ndlovu, Albert Tawanda, Bes Ncube, Tafadzwa Mutomba and Simeon Jones is also expected to play at Bellevue Sports Club.
“We’re hoping the teams that we’re going to select will make us proud in Gweru. Last time we lost the Champion of Champions tournament and losing in this competition is not an option. We want to develop a culture of winning and we know the selection will be difficult but we hope to come up with the best team,” Tshuma said.
Meanwhile, the BMPDA league starts on Wednesday. Railstars are the reigning champions and will expect a strong challenge from Archers who finished second.
