BMW Club Bulawayo celebrated its first anniversary last weekend at the Matopos Sailing Club.
The celebration was characterised with barbeque activity and car stunts.
The club was created last year out of fun but has since grown and today boasts of more than 100 members.
The founder and chairperson of the group, Melusi Sibanda said the event was not just an anniversary celebration but also a get-together party.
He said the party enabled club members to get to know each other better, as they had only been communicating through social media.
“We did not know each other and so the get-together and anniversary saw group members getting the chance to see each other face to face and talk. I am very impressed with the way people have been loyal and committed to the club even if we had never met,” he said.
Sibanda said the club was planning on hosting events to raise funds in an endevour to give to the less fortunate.
“Plans are on the pipeline to work with different stakeholders in bringing change to communities that we come from. As soon as we get the much-needed support then we will start holding projects such as clean-up campaigns.
‘‘There are children at different orphanages we want to help. We will probably come up with contributions and goodies that we will donate to them,” he said.
Sibanda said they would soon register the club as a company so as to meet its goals,” he said.
“We are going to register as a motoring club because we want to be different from other clubs. We have a merchant account and two people are responsible for it, one has the merchant code and the other has the pin number to withdraw money. I assure our members that their money is safe as these two people do not know each other,” he said.
