Nkulumane residents yesterday stumbled on the body of Uchenna Mbonisi near the Phekiwe River in Nkulumane.
Authorities are currently investigating the circumstances surrounding the murder.
The body was discovered early Tuesday morning by local residents who were passing by the riverbank. One resident, Thulani Moyo, recounted how they stumbled upon the grim scene.
“We were collecting firewood near the river when one of us noticed something unusual under the bushes. As we got closer, we saw the body lying there. It was shocking and unsettling for the whole group,” he said.
Another resident, Nokuthula Dube, added, “At first, we thought it might have been an animal, but then we realised it was a person. We immediately alerted the police, who arrived quickly to secure the area.”
However, investigations by this publication indicate that Mbonisi’s death could be linked to previous threats targeted at the mother of his kid, Citizens Coalition for Change (CCC) activitist, Primrose Qiniso Bhebe regarding the disappearance of her friend Yvonne Moyo.
Moyo vanished after attending one of the CCC rallies alongside Bhebe. Her whereabouts remain unknown
However, Moyo’s family accused Bhebe of knowing her whereabouts and also questioned why she had not not disappeared instead of Moyo.
“What followed is a series of attacks on Bhebe and her close family, eventually she disappeared confiding to her colleagues that she did not feel safe, she disappeared together with her daughter.
“After that, the attacks shifted to Mbonisi, who was accused of hiding her although he had continously stated that he had no idea at all of her whereabouts,” said a friend who declined to be named.
The case has raised significant concern in the community, with many residents expressing fear and calling for swift justice. Police investigations continue as they seek to uncover the full details behind these linked incidents.
