ZANU-PF has warned people going around claiming to be fundraising on behalf of the 21st February Movement to immediately stop or face the law. This follows reports that unsanctioned individuals were approaching firms and the general public.
Zanu-PF national youth affairs executive director Cde Tapiwa Zengeya yesterday appealed to the corporate world and well-wishers to support an exhibition and fundraising dinner dance set for February 7.
“These are the only two activities on the ground so anything else is not sanctioned. So we want to warn those people to stop. The only people sanctioned are from the national youth executive who are the managers of the event,” Cde Zengeya said. He said the only official 21st February Movement magazine is the one produced by Touch Point.
The 21st February Movement was established in 1986 to encourage youths to emulate the self-less character and leadership qualities of President Mugabe. It is a day of retrospection and symmetrical recognition of the well-documented life of President Mugabe, born on the day in 1924.
This year’s celebrations are slated for Marondera in Mashonaland East on a date to be announced.
