A member of a gang of robbers appeared in court yesterday for allegedly masquerading as police officers armed with firearms and machetes and stealing valuables in a house.

The armed robbery allegedly took place at around 10am in Southlea Park on April 13.

The allegations are that Langton Manyuchi Ratibu (40) and his accomplices who are still at large introduced themselves as police officers and were allowed to get inside the house.

This is when they met the complainant, a girl aged 16 in the passage, and asked her about the whereabouts of Martin Ngosana. Ratibu and his accomplices then handcuffed the complainant as they produced a pistol, two pairs of scissors (big and small), and two machetes.

They instructed her to lie down on the floor, and struck the complainant on both hands using a machete.

While this was transpiring, the other accused persons ransacked the house searching for cash. They took away a 42 inch Samsung colour television, Sanyo 32-inch television, two blankets, dell laptop, Hp laptop, iPhone 7, a Nokia, Itel, Huawei cellphones with no sim cards, and cash US$5 which was in the dresser drawer. The matter was reported to the police leading to the arrest of Ratibu.

Only the 32-inch Sanyo television set has been recovered. The State led by Mr Tawanda Nyandoro opposed bail to Ratibu stating that he is wanted by CID Chinhoyi for an armed robbery case that occurred on April 22.

Ratibu appeared before Harare regional magistrate Mr Stanford Mambanje.
