Bogus moneylender swindles businesswoman of 36 stands

for a US$20 000 loan, has appeared in court.

Before releasing the loan, Aleck Nyanhewe demanded security from the woman who is the director of Champion Contractors.
She gave him title deeds for nine stands which were a subdivision of 36 stands in Waterfalls.
He then allegedly purported as if the woman had entered into an agreement with his company, Partfirm Investment and proceeded to the Deeds Office where he registered the stands on the bond with his company.

Nyanhewe, who is facing a fraud charge, was not asked to plead when he appeared before magistrate Mr Donald Ndirowei.
He was granted US$200 bail and was remanded out of custody to October 10 for routine remand.
Prosecutor Ms Svodai Kadivirire alleged that on February 8, the woman who was not named in court approached Nyanhewe seeking a US$20 000 loan.

Nyanhewe agreed to advance the loan on the condition that she would return it with US$16 000 as interest, it is alleged.
It is alleged he demanded security and the woman gave him title deeds of her stands.

An agreement purporting that the woman had sold the stands to Nyanhewe was done, the State says.
The woman, it is alleged, started paying back the loan through Nyanhewe’s lawyers.

Nyanhewe then hatched a plan to defraud the woman of her stands and removed the top copy of the agreement done between him and the woman.
It is further alleged that he attached a copy that purported as if the woman had entered into an agreement with his company, Partfirm Investment. Nyanhewe, the State further says, went to the Deeds Office and

registered the woman’s stands on the bond with his company. The woman later learnt of this prompting her to make a police report leading to Nyanhewe’s arrest.
