RENOWNED educationist and Matabeleland North Provincial Education Director (PED) Mrs Boitatelo Mnguni has retired from Government after 37 years of service in the education sector.
She retired in July.
The Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education’s Permanent Secretary Dr Sylvia Utete-Masango said Ms Mnguni had left at a time when they still needed her to continue in her post.
She hailed her as a hands-on educationist whose contribution to the education sector in the country will be greatly missed.
“We were very happy with her period of service. She was the type of a PED who would be on the ground. She was very effective, she left a lot of foot prints in terms of managing the province. We were actually not happy that she was leaving, but we had to respect her decision,” said Dr Utete Masango.
She said Mrs Mnguni’s deputy, Mr Jabulani Mpofu will be the acting PED until her substantive replacement is appointed.
“Such posts are advertised and then those interested respond to the advert before being interviewed by the Public Service Commission,” said Dr Utete Masango.
Mrs Mnguni retirement follows that of Bulawayo’s PED Mr Dan Moyo who retired after 42 years of service early this year. Mrs Olicah Kaira has been the acting Bulawayo PED since then.
Meanwhile, Matabeleland South’s PED Mrs Tumisang Thabela has been promoted to the position of Principal Director in Charge of Curriculum Development in the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education.
