South African TV and radio personalities Bonang “Queen B” Matheba and Somizi “Somgaga” Mhlongo are reportedly no longer on speaking terms after having exchanged harsh words during their visit to Zimbabwe last month.
The once inseparable pair who had travelled to Harare to attend former Miss Zimbabwe – Vanessa ‘Queen Vee’ Sibanda’s All-White Celebrity birthday bash at The Venue in Avondale soon clashed after Bonang gave guests a cold shoulder, refusing to interact with them, let alone take selfies.
All hell broke loose when Somizi reminded her that she had been paid to host the party and needed to execute her duties, something which clearly did not go down well with the diva. Bonang had been paid close to $5,000 to simply host the party which attracted a couple of South African celebrities including rappers Cassper Nyovest and Anatii, comedian Tol Ass Mo and Ziyon. That did not happen as she never, at any point of the night, took to the podium. The least she did was to take a few selfies with Queen Vee, preferring to spend the night taking selfies with Somizi and part of her team which had accompanied her. Somizi, fed up by Bonang’s actions, headed straight to the birthday girl and danced the night away sipping on some Moet. This marked the beginning of his problems with his sidekick as they were reported to have flown back to South Africa not on speaking terms.
And now, nothing seems to have changed, as a month later, the “best friends forever” are being rumoured by South African media to have turned into frenemies.
It however seems Bonang who was rumoured to have snatched rapper AKA from DJ Zinhle, was not her usual bubbly self at the party as she received a call from AKA asking her what she was doing in the same building with his rap rival, Cassper Nyovest. She however never spoke to Cassper on the night, preferring to keep to her corner.
“After fighting with AKA over the phone, she was not the same. She was angry and moody and wasn’t friendly to other party guests,” said a Sunday Sun source.
“Bonang had been shouting over the phone, which resulted in her being centre of attention. . . That’s where it all started.
“Somizi was mad at her because she wasn’t being professional,” said the witness.
Another Sunday Sun source said: “To make matters worse, a few weeks ago Somizi was offered a chance to shoot a reality show with Basetsana Kumalo. Bonang wanted to be in it, but she was left on the sidelines.”
A third source said: “Bonang is bitter because Basetsana chose Somizi over her, and she feels used by Somizi because it was through Bonang’s contacts that he met high-profile people who offered him gigs.”
“Now they’re not posting pictures of the two of them together on Instagram anymore.”
Efforts to get comments from both Bonang and Somizi were fruitless as they both refused, preferring to hang up. Somizi instead decided to poke fun at the tabloid newspaper on his Instagram account: “Guess which tabloid I’ve saved at the last missed calls. Lol. Let’s all call them nonstop, let it ring 3 times and hang up and call again.”
