POLICE have launched a manhunt for a St David’s Bonda Girls’ High School teacher who allegedly fled after being caught in the middle of a sexual offence involving a 17 year old learner.
According to national police spokesperson, Commissioner Paul Nyathi, the suspect — identified as Anesu Mautsa (48) of House Number 3, Richard Crescent, Florida, Mutare — attempted to bribe school security staff with US$2 000 to conceal the offence, but was refused.
Commissioner Nyathi revealed that Mautsa, employed as a teacher at the boarding institution, was exposed after security personnel intercepted him releasing the Upper Six boarder from his home within the school premises.
Investigations show that last Sunday, around 6pm, Mautsa allegedly drove into the school yard, picked up the complainant near the classrooms, and ferried her to his residence inside the compound.
Police say the suspect sped off after being confronted, and efforts are underway to bring him to justice.
“One of the school security guard, Ms Venancia Mupandasekwa, of Dziwa Village, under Chief Mutasa, spotted the accused person as he was picking the complainant, and teamed up with her workmate, Mr Jonathan Tika, also of Dziwa Village, and proceeded to the accused person’s house.
“Upon arrival, the accused person and the complainant were already inside the house. The two security guards waited in ambush until at around 7.30pm, when the accused person opened the door of his house, checked the surroundings, and released the complainant. The complainant entered into the accused’s vehicle. The security guards came out and questioned the accused person what he was doing with the complainant, but he failed to give a satisfactory explanation,” said Commissioner Nyathi, adding that Mautsa’s attempts to bribe the security guards were futile.
“The accused person pleaded with the security guards, and tried to bribe them by giving each of them US$1 000, but they refused the offer, and informed the school deputy headmistress, Mrs Sekai Musanhu, who arrived at the scene. The accused person sped off from the scene. The deputy headmistress interviewed the complainant, who revealed that she had unprotected sexual intercourse with the suspect twice on different occasions.
“On June 23, Mrs Musanhu escorted the complainant to ZRP Mutasa, and filed a report. The complainant was referred to Bonda Mission Hospital for medical examination. Police attended the scene and could not locate the accused person,” said Commissioner Nyathi.
Apparently, even though Mautsa has been declared a fugitive from justice in connection with the case at hand, he is believed to have had multiple sexual relations with minors at the same boarding institution.
An SOS message circulated on social media, ostensibly authored by a learner at the school, alleged that Mautsa must have been involved in multiple sexual relations with young girls at the school.
The widely circulated message reads: “As I am writing this, my heart is bleeding. I would like to name and shame St David’s Bonda High School, you have failed us as students. The ones supposed to protect us as the girl child are the ones violating us. It has been happening since I was in Form One with no action being taken. Sir Mautsa, what has gotten into you really, an adult male. Really, sneaking students into your house during prep time using your tinted car, sleeping with young girls and even having unprotected sex.
“For your own information, some of the girls that you take come back and tell their friends, unfortunately they are not seeing that they are being destroyed. It is time to take action! Law enforcers please help the girl child, arrest this murderer! It has been long, the most painful thing is that he is spreading a very painful sexually transmitted infection (STI). An STI from one man has spread the whole school. Sometimes at the lab, we pass through and actually hear that he is inside with young girls during odd hours. Enough is enough! We are tired, law enforcers, our parents will be thinking we are protected, but no, Bonda is now touchline (a place where sex workers are picked).”
Anglican Diocese of Manicaland education secretary, Dr Edmund Samutereko, confirmed the ongoing investigations, and revealed that the church condemns such alleged acts.
“The police are looking for him as part of the broader investigations into the allegations, which we do not condone as the Responsible Authority. If indeed it happened, we condemn that, and believe the law should take its course, bring him to book, so that he can account for the alleged actions,” said Dr Samutereko.
