An arts and craft exhibition aimed at highlighting the demand for authentic Zimbabwean products takes place tomorrow at the Book Cafe in Harare.
A similar event was held at the same venue on December 21 and saw close to 30 exhibitors displaying and selling their wares from around the country.

The popularity of the fair saw organisers putting in place another event tomorrow. It will be held every third Saturday of the month thereafter.

“The Book Cafe has teamed up with the Zimbabwe Applied Art and Craft Association to establish the Craft Fair as an innovative platform for the promotion and sale of traditional and modern Zimbabwean craft at a venue that attracts thousands of local and visiting arts lovers every year,” said Paul Brickhill of the Book Cafe.

The event will showcase high quality local hand-made crafts like basketware, fabrics, dolls and wall hangings, as well as latest music from local artistes who usually do not have the opportunity to meet personally with their appreciative fans and audiences.

Students and practitioners from the Gonamombe Mbira Centre in Harare will also present their wares including artistically designed mbira gourds as well as offer their expertise in the creation and production of the uniquely Zimbabwean musical instrument.

Brickhill added that craftwork is a form of cultural expression in material form which in most instances tells the stories of Zimbabwe in an artistic way.

Book and literature enthusiasts will get the opportunity to view latest works of literature from writers who will be in attendance to showcase their latest offerings as well.

Food lovers will not be left out as a spread of various traditional local and other African flavours will be on sale including madora, mufushwa, and many other dishes.
