The Book of African Records will this year seek to churn out more quality programming on ZBCTV with some of the entertaining and educative shows. Only last year, the Book of African Records successfully launched their one-minute programme just before the main news bulletin on ZBCTV at 8pm called “Zim’s Firsts”
The “Zim Firsts” brought entertaining information on who were the first Zimbabwean to achieve something.
Kwame Tapiwa Muzawazi who is the editor-in-chief of the Book of African Records said viewers should watch out for more fascinating show when they bring the “African Firsts” which focuses on African achievements.
“The freshness, originality, authenticity and pan-African outlook of these productions by the Book of African Records are an assurance that after all, local content can be achieved through looking at our immediate African environment to derive inspiration and produce new entertainment.
“The catchy video graphics, charismatic voice, mind-blowing information, deeply-researched content, which lasts for only 40 seconds all add to create a well-baked product. It is a symbol of proudly Zimbabwean stuff.
“Whenever there is talk of enforcing the 75 percent content policy on local radio and television, one of the headaches that broadcasters have had to deal with is quality. And quality is not just about a work that is aesthetically plausible, but original, fresh and authentically entertaining,” Muzawazi said.
He said the Zimbabwean arts and culture industry was filled with raw talent capable of producing world class productions.
“This has been proven now and again by such internationally recognised works of groups such as the Bhundu Boys and Oliver Mtukudzi in music, Iyasa in the dance and poetry section; or the works of Dominic Benhura in visual arts.
“So, it certainly is not a matter of whether Zimbabwe has the talent but is the environment well cultivated so as to nurture and promote local productions. Additionally, and more importantly, the food for thought for local artistes is to consider how to achieve quality production without blaming Government or the lack of well-wishers for atrocious products. Sometimes achievements are only attained by forging strategic partnerships and using non-traditional business models to fuel success,” he said.
