BULAWAYO Amateur Football Association (Bafa) yesterday received a donation of two footballs and three nets from Townshend and Butcher. Townshend and Butcher are sportswear suppliers in the city. Bafa vice chairman Charles Chunda received the donation from Townshend and Butcher owner Peter Leondios.
“It’s a milestone to us and these items will come in handy. Townshend and Butcher have made a generous donation for which we are very grateful. We need support from the corporate world in order to grow the sport in the city,” Chunda said.
He said Bafa was there to push for the progress of the sport in the city and it would not come unless there was unity among teams.
“Bafa now has 20 teams with an additional 16 who joined us this year. It would be impossible for teams to realise growth individually. Collectively as a unit we can have more progress,” he said.
Leondios said they were always happy to give something to Bafa who were doing so much to grow sports in the community.
“We’ve been sponsoring Bafa since 1957 and we’ll continue doing so. Sport in the community needs to grow and that’s what Bafa has been striving for all these years. In these hard times youths are tempted to get involved in illegal activities so they need something that will keep them occupied and Bafa is managing to do that to a certain extent,” he said.
