ZIVA Mwari Congregation Church has fulfilled its promise to donate foodstuffs and clothing to Masembura Nekutenda orphanage in Bindura.

Ziva Mwari is a church of alcohol drinkers and, when it was opened, it promised to pay school fees for some students, buy food, clothes and sanitary wear for the orphanage, among other things.

On Saturday, the church visited the orphanage to hand over its donation.

Ziva Mwari Congregation Church leader, Richard Twabi, said their mission was to help disadvantaged members of the community by meeting some of their basic needs.

Twabi told H-Metro their church members know what the disadvantaged go through.

“Despite drinking beer, we are responsible fathers and mothers.

“We have decided to help them (children at the orphanage), not because we are rich, but because it is right.

“We promise to continue helping them for as long as we can,” said Twabi.

He thanked his members for fulfilling their promise of supporting the disadvantaged.

“I hope we will maintain this culture of helping and taking over some of the responsibilities at this orphanage.

“Today, we have managed to bring food, sanitary wear, shoes of different sizes, school fees and we are also painting the orphanage.

“Toilet seats are part of the materials we are bringing for the renovation of the home,” he said.

Founder of the orphanage, Prosper Maponga, thanked the church for its support.

He said the donation will go a long way in meeting the needs of the children at the home.

“I want to thank Ziva Mwari for the love and my gratitude goes to everyone at the church,” said Maponga.

The orphanage is a home to about 25 orphans and vulnerable children ranging from six to 15 years.
