It was a good Easter holiday for the team who collected maximum points away in Bulawayo on Good Friday when they hammered newcomers Quelaton 3-0 to go to the top of the log for the first time in 11 years.
The team received two sets of branded kit, football boots, tackies, tracksuits, travelling bags, 60 training shirts, 60 training balls and 15 match balls, cones, training bibs, cooler boxes and four nets.
Shabanie players who used to sleep in the bus for their away matches last season will now sleep at the Cresta Lodge for their away matches in Harare and Wise Owl in Mutare with all expenses paid for by the company.
“I am still working on how much to give them as a top up to their winning bonuses but all I want is for them to win seven games in the first half of the season and collect another 25 points in the second half of the season. If they continue winning I can raise the stakes. I was impressed with the last two games and I respect the coach who is result-oriented. If I get good results from them, more things will come their way” said Nancy Dube, the managing director of Vedette Trading.
Dube said she was committed to promoting sport in the Midlands province.
“I come from the Midlands and my business interests are in Zvishavane. I am supported in this town and it is proper for me to give back to the community. I saw the team being formed to a driving force in 1998 gaining promotion in 2001 and all I want is for them to stay in the Premiership as they are the most supported team in the town,” she said.
The Shabanie patron Greg Mataka was on cloud nine following the donation.
“I am overwhelmed by the donation and I am just appealing to all the businesspeople and individuals in the town to emulate Vedette,” he said.
A new executive was also announced yesterday. Webster Chitono retained his chairman’s post and will be assisted by Fidelis Chimedza. The other members are Gift Rupiya (treasurer), Elias Marufu (secretary) with Simba Mutasa, Piri Mukono, Henry Moyo, Joseph Zimuto and Mutsva Chitoro as committee members.
Chengetai Phiri is now the club administrator.
Samuel Gondwe will be the welfare manager for the Chinda Boys.
