BOOST to host corporate governance contest

BOOST Fellowship, a non-profit making organisation, will this month hold an ethics and transparency competition for university students, in partnership with Delta Corporation.The initiative is aimed at promoting ethical behaviour in individuals and organisations. The competition will take place on September 20, 2013 and would be running under the theme “Ethics and Corporate Governance”.

BOOST programme co-ordinator Ms Tanatsa Muparadzi said this year’s event would be graced by a number of universities.
“Ten universities from around Zimbabwe which are under the BOOST Programme will compete in front of a panel of corporate executive judges to showcase their community projects which best highlight the theme of Ethics and Corporate Governance.

“The theme came about after a thorough consultative process with all the relevant stakeholders because it was realised that students need to gain a deeper understanding of the concept and its relevance to business ethics,” she added.

She also said these universities will be vying for the top three spots and a special thematic award will go to the team best identifies and explores on key issues around corporate governance.

“Teams are also required to do research papers on Delta Corporation products in the hope of providing useful feedback to Delta on their products from the communities,” she added.

Ms Mupararadzi said that after observing the radical transformation in the lives of many during the tenure on the programme, they have come to realise that there is a unique opportunity to make a difference to the lives of people in Zimbabwe and Africa on a broader scale.

“In light of this understanding, we have concluded that the primary responsibility and the foremost strategic objective of the BOOST Fellowship must be to help young people to become effective leaders and to cultivate a sustainable culture of leadership in the families, communities, institutions and countries of sub-Saharan Africa,” she said

The BOOST Fellowship was founded in 2000 through the support of people from Zimbabwe, the UK and the USA.
Together, they observed that while most schools and universities across the world generally provide a wide-ranging academic education, many students find themselves inadequately prepared for the opportunities and the challenges of the world beyond the classroom.
