Booze-Fuelled brutality: ‘Rasta’ gets 16 years for murder

A 35-YEAR-OLD dreadlocked Bikita man has been locked up for 16 years after a drunken night ended in a chilling murder.
Simbarashe Zano, of Village Nherere, was convicted by the High Court in Masvingo for bludgeoning Gift Mudyiva (32) to death in a gruesome attack.

The court heard the pair had been drinking at Mugabe Bar on 15 March 2022. Hours later, at 3am, Mudyiva left to buy more beer—but by dawn, he was dead. A witness spotted Zano dragging what looked like a heavy object near Chinhamo Business Centre, recognising him by his dreadlocks and blue T-shirt. When confronted, Zano bolted, leaving Mudyiva’s battered body face-down in a pool of blood, a bloodstained log nearby.

A post-mortem confirmed the victim died from severe head trauma. Zano went on the run but was finally nabbed in October 2023. Judge slammed him with a 16-year sentence, branding the crime “senseless and savage.”
