Death in beer brawl: Brick blow lands Chivi man 3 years in slammer

Bmetro Reporter

A 21-YEAR-OLD Zimbabwean man, Benson Gwerena, has been caged for three years after a drunken row at a bar ended in tragedy.
The High Court in Masvingo heard how Gwerena and his victim were booted out of Muchenami Business Centre last May—only for their booze-fuelled spat to turn fatal.

According to The National Prosecuting Authority of ZIMBABWE (NPAZ), the pair sat by a fireplace before the deceased whacked Gwerena with a burning log. In a fit of rage, Gwerena retaliated with a brick, killing the man instantly. Cops later found the body in a pool of blood after a tip-off from a passerby.

The judge slapped Gwerena with five years, but chopped two off on suspension. Now, he’s serving a hard three behind bars.
