NEWLY-promoted Premier Soccer League outfit Border Strikers are searching for a new coach after revelations that Never Malunga, who guided them to the Central Soccer League championship, doesn’t have the requisite qualifications to coach in the PSL.
The PSL has set the Caf C Licence as a minimum requirement for a coach to sit on the PSL bench and Malunga is believed to be a holder of the Zifa Level 4 coaching certificate.
Border Strikers chairman Jabulani Ndou said they could bring in a new coach, although the PSL had not communicated with them regarding their gaffer.
“For now we’re continuing with the current technical team until such time we need reinforcements. At the moment, the PSL is still to communicate tous on that issue and when the official communication comes, we’ll take the necessary steps,” said Ndou.
However, sources within the Border Strikers’ camp said contact had been made and the border town side had lined up some coaches, among them Saul Chaminuka of Buffaloes, Whawha’s Lloyd Mutasa and former Shabanie Mine gaffer John Phiri.
The trio, however, said they had not been approached by Vavheneki as the border town outfit is affectionately known.
Border Strikers have already started their pre-season training under Malunga as the hunt for a new coach continues.
The situation at Border Strikers is similar to that of relegated Whawha, who were forced to rope in Lloyd Mutasa as technical adviser since coach Luke Petros-Jukulile did not have the requisite papers to sit on the bench.
Meanwhile, the refurbishment of Dulibadzimu Stadium is 75 percent complete and renovations are expected to be done before the end of February to meet minimum PSL standards.
Beitbridge Town Council secretary Loud Ramakgapola said upon completion, the stadium will have a capacity of 3,000.
