With the winter break coming to an end across Europe, the Czech Republic and German side played out a friendly at the Letna Stadium.
Considering both teams were coming off the back of a lengthy break, the match was a good one.
Sparta ran out 3-1 winners courtesy of goals from Tomas Cvancara, Lukas Haraslin, and Tomas Wiesner. However, both sets of fans may have missed all of these goals as they were too busy launching snowballs at one another.
On a freezing night in the Czech capital, snow began to fall and settle around the ground. While the pitch remained playable, thick layers of snow began to form and settle in the grounds of the stadium.
However, you would not have seen a single upset person as the Sparta Prague and Nuremberg fans forgot about the game and got themselves into battle mode. What may have initially started as one cheeky fan hurling a hand sized snowball into the opposing fans, very quickly became a charming, winter war zone.
Fans squatted down, hastily forming perfect snowy spheres before launching them into enemy territory. The seats of the stadium did not fold back up, thus making them the perfect flat surface to hold piles and piles of snow balls.
Incredibly, tactics began to take shape in the stands as many supporters opted to nominate people to produce the snowballs, to hold the snowballs, and, most importantly, to launch fierce, pin-point, snow ball strikes on the opposition.
While many brave, hardened souls were left with cold faces, soggy clothes, and snow in between clothes and skin, one fan in particular was heralded to the hills. “They may be outnumbered, but wars are won by logistics, not infantry. Shout out to that one guy with ready made snowballs helping his team reload,” one fan laughed on social media.
“That guy coming with the pile of pre-prepared snowballs . . . that’s the German efficiency for you right there,” another added. “That dude at the end who bought a bunch of snowballs at the end has combat experience. Should be given a medal for meritorious service.” – BBC Sport.
