A BOREHOLE is being drilled in Belapez, Ward 8 of Hunyani Constituency, to help alleviate water challenges facing residents.

Speaking in Belapez today, Ward 8 Councillor Knowledge Mutapaire said the borehole was among those secured through President Mnangagwa and Hunyani Constituency legislator Cde Tongai Mafidi Mnangagwa.

“As the councillor, I am doing the running around,” he said.

Clr Mutapaire said three boreholes would be drilled in the area, with one earmarked for Lindest and two for Retreat.

“Twenty-three boreholes were sited in the ward and we have managed to get six,” he said.

He said residents in Belapez were currently relying on shallow water sources, which he described as unhygienic.

“So if we get clean water from the borehole being drilled here, the whole community will be happy,” he said.

Clr Mutapaire thanked President Mnangagwa for supporting the borehole project, saying it would help reduce the risk of water-borne diseases in the area.

He also appealed to Government for skip bins in Belapez to prevent illegal dumping as refuse is not collected in the area as it does not have a certificate of compliance.

“We are not yet paying anything to council so we appeal for Government intervention for Geo Pomona to provide skip bins,” he said.

Clr Mutapaire said there is also need for a mobile clinic for the elderly to seek treatment and such things as checks for high blood pressure and diabetes.

Mr Dennis Ndlovu Potera, chairman for Ward 8 Development Committtee said the borehole will alleviate water challenges which were being faced.

“Residents were waking up as early as 1am to fetch water,” he said.

Mr Potera thanked Cde Mafidi Mnangagwa and Cllr Mutapaire for the noble move.

Mr Jairos Mhona, resident of Belapez and chairman of the sub-development committee in Tembwe said the borehole will prevent a health hazard.

He also appealed for a borehole in Damafalls.

Another resident said the water sources that were available were drying up.

“Residents would spend the whole night fetching water for laundry at the water source and getting drinking water from residents with boreholes.

“So today we are very happy that a borehole is being drilled,” she said.

Another resident also thanked President Mnangagwa and Clr Mutapaire for the borehole as it will prevent water-borne diseases.
