Pride “Veylla” Mashaire of popular group Born Free Crew has gone solo with a project titled “Manyemwe” featuring DJ Anusa. The singer denied having broken up with the rest of his group but emphasised that he needed to establish his own unique style whilst still being a member of the Born Free Crew.
The group grew gained prominence with their debut single “Get Connected” then went on to release several tracks on an album called “Nhaka Yedu/Our Heritage” including “Toita Sei” which features the voice of President Mugabe.
“With the Born Free Crew we concentrate more on political and afrocentric themes, but on this single I ventured into the topic of love and relationships which are close to my heart,” he said.
The music video is a depiction of a young man who tells his girlfriend that she makes him proud to be associated with her, and in a rare touch in local videos, one of the models is a beautiful white girl who dances to the touching tune.
Mashaire revealed that he is currently working on his solo album called “Ndiregedze” which features various artists including Nendoro, Jah Prayzah and Oliver “Tuku” Mtukudzi.
“I am producing one single at a time due to my hectic schedule where I have to attend lessons but I will definitely have the album ready by the end of the year,” he said.
Currently, Mashaire is studying for an engineering qualification at the Harare Polytechnic and believes that education is an essential foundation for anyone no matter what career they choose to pursue.
