One person who licks his lips at the prospect of bagging an award at the Roil Bulawayo Arts Awards (BAA) ceremony that will be held at the Large City Hall tomorrow is nightclub DJ, Prince Eskhosini.
Will it be third time lucky for the DJ who has been rocking patrons for years? Only time will tell.
The previous RoilBAA editions have been frustrating for Prince Eskhosini who is also a founding member of Iyasa and Conga Brothers. This is because, he came close to winning and this time, he is keeping his fingers crossed on lady luck smiling his way in respect to the perennially elusive RoilBAA gong.
“I lost out in the two previous RoilBAA editions and it was frustrating. In as much as I wanted to win the much-coveted gong, I found solace in the fact that I believe that all of us (my fellow nominees) were winners in our own right but there was only one gong available. I’m excited by the nomination and feel challenged to work even harder.
The nomination is synonymous to winning the actual award,” said DJ Prince Eskhosini.
This time around, DJ Prince Eskhosini will have to topple DJ Mzoe and DJ Crazy Dee enroute to being crowned the RoilBAA Outstanding Club DJ for 2021.
Since the late 90s leading to the turn of the millennium, DJ Prince Eskhosini has been slowly, but surely rising to be one of the best in what he does.
Carving a niche for himself as a Club DJ, Prince Eskhosini has been there and done whatever is done in the industry.
During his career, which has seen the DJ win a trifecta of awards, Prince has shared the stage with the now-defunct South African hip hop trio of Teargas, DJ Black Coffee, DJ Ganyani, DJ Cyndoe, Naak Musiq, Otis Fraser, Easy T and a whole lot more.
His discography includes Sphuza Noma Yini, Chocolate Amapiano Remix, Rasta Remix, Enhlizweni Yami and Utshwala.
Part of the activities that he undertakes when he is not on the decks include music production, singing, practising percussion, serenading listeners on radio and also being an author.
His influence has been felt even in neighbouring Eswatini where he has an hour slot on Hala radio. This is complementary to what he does on the Weekend Mix on local radio station Khulumani FM.
During his spare time, the Club DJ will be draped with greased overalls while fixing cars, a profession that he loves, but when it comes to the decks, nothing can separate the two. He was “born to be a DJ.” – @eMKlass_49
