ROPAFADZO Chidhumo, who was born without both hands and legs and was abandoned by her father just a month after birth, dreams of being a DOCTOR one day.

Now a Grade 3 student at Kasimhure Primary School in Karoi, the eight-year-old travels nearly 7kms to school in a wheelchair.

Ropafadzo says she wants to be a doctor when she grows up, but she needs artificial hands and a better school to help her achieve her goals.

Her grandfather has appealed for help, saying other schools have turned Ropafadzo away because they are scared of the challenges she presents.

Her mother has since remarried.

“Baba vake vakati mashura api iwaya ndokubva vaenda. Nazvino havasati vazivikanwa kuti vakaendepi.

“The problem is the distance she travels to school. Ropafadzo needs artificial hands and legs, and we feel sorry for her, but dai awanawo chikoro chiri padhuze.

“Vamwe vake vakutononoka kuendawo kuchikoro nekuti vanenge vachimupusha,” said her grandfather.

Philanthropist Nicholas Karikoga of Fulcrum Piggery has stepped in to offer Ropafadzo food and promised her a Christmas present.

“When I saw her along the busy road, I was touched. The distance she travels is long and there are many dangers.

“I tracked her from her school to where she stays.

“I then gave her some food items and promised her a Christmas present.

“These are the people who should be getting help. She needs a better school which offers facilities conducive for her condition,” said Karikoga.

It’s a challenge for the likes of Wicknell Chivayo, Scott Sakupwanya and Mudiwa Hood to try and help this bright girl struggling with disability.
