Borrowdale Race Course ready for Triple Crown race

WITH only a day to go before the Bloodstock South Africa Grade (3) race, the second leg of the Triple Crown to be held at Borrrowdale Race Course tomorrow, there is optimism that the 2,000 metre race will live up to expectations. This stayers race, is one of the longest races to be held at the ceremonial home of horse racing, Borrowdale Park this year.

Early this week the authorities, Mashonaland Turf Club, gave an all clear signal in the process paving way for nine runners to battle for the crown on Sunday.

Eversolucky, Latin Queen, Merhaba, Mica Point, Print The Pounds, So Ruler, Suave Singer, Tallie Two and Young Antwun will square up against each other to determine the fastest three-year-old from this cast.

A few weeks ago during the running of the Guineas Trial race, the first leg of the Triple Crown, Mica Point tore the form book on her way to winning the race.

That one was over 1,600M.

She did so in exceptional style beating the highly rated Eversolucky from the Gokhan Terzi stable by close to five lengths.

In the end Eversolucky had to settle for second position a pill that proved bitter to swallow to her fans.

At least four stables will test their arsenal against each other for this race in the search of the champion trainer for this year’s edition of the Triple Crown.

Trainers that will be represented are Gokhan Terzi winner of the Zimoco Ipi Tombe race early this month.

Also in is the champion trainer for the first leg of the Triple Crown race, Bridget Stidolp, Alyson Wright and Amy Bronkhorst.

The final leg of this race, the third leg of the Triple Crown is the Zimbabwe Derby Grade (3) race which will take place on April 19 at the race course. Runners that make it through to the final will gallop over 2,400M for the winners’ cheque.

In horse racing this three-legged competition is the ultimate test of thorough breed horse racing. Winning all the races is a feat which is very difficult to achieve.

Only a few horses boast of having passed this test with flying colours. The last winner was Lucky Sam who campaigned under the Bridget Stidolp yard during the 2012/13 racing season.

According to the racing manager Betina Gurajena the stage is now set for what promises to be a family outing tomorrow.

“We are through with our preparations for the Blooodstock race on Sunday. The final stage was the printing of the race card which we have done. We also expect this race day to be a family day full of drama,” added Gurajena.
