HORSE racing at Borrowdale is set for good times following the signing of a trial arrangement that will see races beamed live, a development that began with HRIB Gold Cup race yesterday.
This follows the signing of a deal between Mashonaland Turf Club and media organisation Sand Promotions.
Horse racing commentator Sheldene Chant, a member of the Mashonaland Owners and Trainers Association (MOTA) online, said there was a “natural mystic blowing through the air at Borrowdale” as a result of the development and that “horse racing (at Borrowdale) will never be the same again”.
Fans and punters within Zimbabwe and beyond are therefore in for a treat. In fact, it seems horse racing has emerged from the mists, and viewers at home and across our borders will enjoy increased and much improved TV coverage.
Multitudes of horse racing fans on the racecourse will be able to watch live racing on the big screen, erected at the finishing post, from a seat in the grandstand, as well as follow results and race information live on a separate big screen.
Sand Promotions have signed a marketing contract with the MTC and one of the most exciting aspects will be the delivery of their Outside Broadcast Van (OB Van) and an eight-camera suited rig that carries state-of-the- art camera equipment.
This will give Borrowdale a far better picture quality going into all three international Tellytrack channels.
Racing coverage out of Borrowdale Park will be on a par with that from any other courses in Southern Africa.
According to the finer details of the arrangement, Sand Promotions have also signed on for a live feed from the country’s national broadcaster, ZBC, for a full day’s racing from Borrowdale.
This will encourage local viewers and local companies to become part of the racing industry and will also appear on DSTV Channel 280.
